That time again. I didn’t make quite as much progress as I had projected, but I’m not about to rush myself. In fact, it’s good to step back sometimes, and come back with a fresh view. Having done so, there are some alterations to the ‘grand plan’ I have in mind going forward.
Mostly today I continued adding more straps, and making more adjustments. I had to resize a few more rings as the straps made their way around the sides and to the back.
About this time, I have realized a couple of things. First being, I haven’t really laid out any plan for the lower half of the harness. So before any strap is placed there around the waist, I need to firmly decide whats going on below.
The second realization was that I have a lot of straps about now, and I’m counting on mirroring them from left to right. But is that going to work well with Beziers? I don’t know. I had better try that out.
Up to now working with meshes, I’ve been pretty successful with using the Mirror function. The key is to get the object’s center to be at the center of the avatar. However, it seems things aren’t so simple with a bezier generated object, it’s center is at the center of the object. so the mirror isn’t anywhere near where I want it.
But I suspect all isn’t lost. I notice the Mirror Modifier has an “Object” box you can fill in. My hope is that lets you mirror around an object, rather than around a center. If so, it will work very much like the ‘Prim Mirror’ many builders are familiar with using in SL. I’ll try that first thing tomorrow.
Also, after looking at all the straps, I realize things are starting to get a little monotonous. So for aesthetic reasons, I’m going to break things up a bit.
You can see the guide I had placed originally. The angle is wrong anyway. So instead I’ll put a leather ‘T’ area across the back to give more variety and make the construction more ‘plausible’. Maybe later we could even put a D-Ring… hmmm.
A similar idea for the front. not only too many straps, but I wasn’t pleased with the ‘flatness’ of the center strap, in comparison to the others. So here as well, we’ll go with a leather piece with a more rounded look and more possibilities.
I’m liking where this is going. 🙂 Until next time…
