Overall, things have been going well. Maybe too well. The popularity of the Harness took me somewhat by surprise. It’s a good thing, but it also puts a lot of demands on my time, trying to keep up with customer service, custom fittings, and resolving any issues that inevitably arise. As a result, things have not been progressing at the rate I would like to see.
I outlined a number of things I wanted to accomplish right after the release, in this post. I’ve been able to do a number of them, in between everything else. But a number of them still remain. Obviously there’s also been some things that have come up that were unexpected, like bugs. I’ve already released one FLEX HUD update to address some of the worst bugs. There’s still some more which will be addressed in the next FLEX HUD update which is coming pretty soon. That update will be bundled with the promised TimeLock upgrade to the Harness (getting close to completion!).
As you also already know (if you’ve been paying attention), I held a vote and the Straitjacket clearly won. I know people are eagerly awaiting it. but due to all of the reasons listed above, I’m still not past the initial planning stages. The Timelock is an important part of not only the Harness, but many future items, so I feel it’s good to get that squared away now. I am starting to see some tapering off of custom work, so that is leaving me more time to spend on cleaning up my to-do list and getting to the next big thing. 🙂
Now, a shift in subject.
A little while back, a commenter on my blog expressed interest in having access to the FLEX API for creating their own items or integrating 3rd party items into the FLEX system. I’ve been mulling this over, and I think the idea has merit. However, because of the complexity of the system, the system architecture, security reasons, etc; such integration would need to be done in a controlled manner. So I would like to gauge interest, and gather people who are interested in discussing this idea, and see what, if anything, develops.
If you’re someone who creates items that you feel could benefit from the unified interface that the FLEX HUD provides, contact me and I’ll invite you to the working group. From there we can see if such an arrangement is possible.
